About Us
I came to the United States from Cuba when I was seven years old with my mom. We lived in Miami almost all my life. I have four beautiful children, Bernardo, Alejandro, Jasmin and Yesenia. I have two beautiful grandkids, Margarita and MichelAngelo. I have worked in the real estate, accounting and payroll field almost all of my life. Rafa tried coming to the United States 15 times and was sent back by the US Coast Guard, but on his 16th time he made it. He left behind a daughter, Yesenia.
About 4 years ago Rafa and I took a wrong turn on I-77 and landed in Sparta. We stayed at the Alleghany Inn and when we walked around town the next morning, we loved it. We bought our first vacation home and vacationed on and off for four years. I didn't know it was the right turn back then, but on April 2010 we moved to Sparta permanently and have loved it ever since.
I love my small town, yes my town, because that is how I feel about Sparta. Everyone has welcomed us with open arms. Thank you, Sparta!!!
It's been a blessing to purchase Backwoods Bean Coffee Shop in Sparta. When I arrived in town in April 2010 I couldn’t think of what I wanted to do. Someone mentioned that the coffee shop was for sale, and here I am. It’s been a learning experience and a great chapter in my life. I love the support my locals have given me. It’s been an honor to serve everyone who steps into my coffee shop. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting people from all over the US and the world. Tourists passing through stop to check us out and maybe drink a cup of coffee. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like work. It’s too much fun, and I love it.
