Welcome to Backwoods Bean

This month, we're going green! We have 3 organic selections to try. From Parra Jiminez, the same family-operated winery that gave us Earth 2.0, we have their "Organic Tempranillo." Additionally, we are trying the inaugural vintages of "Hopping White" and "Hopping Red" from California Rabbit. To round out our selection with another white (and to honor St. Valentine) we're "frenching" you with Louis Latour's "Chardonnay d' Ardèche."

It's been a blessing to purchase Backwoods Bean Coffee Shop in Sparta. When I arrived in town in April 2010 I couldn’t think of what I wanted to do. Someone mentioned that the coffee shop was for sale, and here I am. It’s been a learning experience and a great chapter in my life. I love the support my locals have given me. It’s been an honor to serve everyone who steps into my coffee shop. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting people from all over the US and the world. Tourists passing through stop to check us out and maybe drink a cup of coffee. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like work. It’s too much fun, and I love it.

It’s believed that every town — large and small — deserves a coffeehouse. A cultural icon for half a millennium, the coffeehouse is a meeting place for the entire community to come gather as one, make new acquaintances and renew old ones. It's a place for discussing all our yesterdays, todays and tomorrows; for listening to music; for reading and writing; for viewing the world through the eyes of artists and the minds of intellectuals — all this while enjoying a leisurely cup of coffee as well as, perhaps, a freshly baked pastry, in relaxing and comforting surroundings.

It's my hope that Backwoods Bean Coffee Shop can be that place for Sparta and all the other communities throughout Alleghany County.
